The UK has signed an agreement with Singapore to work together on a £10-million satellite project to make online activity more secure using quantum technology.

The two countries have agreed to develop a “quantum key distribution qubesat”, a satellite based on the small cubesat that will use quantum key distribution technology to test the secure distribution of cryptographic keys, according to a statement from the Science and Technology Facilities Council on 27 September.

Quantum key distribution technology is resistant to all known computational attacks, including those likely to be employed by future quantum computers.
