Ministers need meta-research, says former adviser

Stian Westlake hopes Research on Research Institute can help policymakers get funding decisions right

A former government adviser has said that more research on research is sorely needed to inform government funding decisions.

Stian Westlake, who served as a policy adviser to science minister Chris Skidmore and his predecessors Sam Gyimah and Jo Johnson, told a meeting in London that officials were often not well equipped to make funding decisions.
