Conservative manifesto and prominent Lib Dem MP look to use pension funds to finance science

An idea to access billions of pounds locked up in pension investments is gathering momentum after the ruling Conservative party included it in its 2019 election manifesto.

“We will unlock long-term capital in pension funds to invest in and commercialise our scientific discoveries, creating a vibrant science-based economy post-Brexit,” said the Conservative manifesto launched on 24 November.
