New costing tool to reduce burden in NHS R&D contracting

The National Institute for Health Research has launched an online costing tool to decrease cost negotiation time and speed up the implementation of research studies.

The interactive tool will replace Excel-based costing that is currently undertaken by the NHS when contracting with the life sciences industry. The launch of the tool on 13 May has made the costing process for research studies fully automated.

The system is part of the NIHR’s ambition to streamline and improve the process of commercial contract research. This includes the rollout of a single contract review process that is being tested at several sites. This is meant to reduce the time it takes to cost multi-site trials and reduce variation across providers.
