Ireland soars and UK slumps in EU intellectual property league

UK economy doesn’t use intellectual property rights such as patents and copyright to the same extent as other countries, such as Ireland or Czech Republic.

Ireland leads the EU with 65 per cent of its GDP coming from industries that make intensive use of intellectual property rights, according to a 25 September report published by the European Patent Office and the European Union Intellectual Property Office.

Meanwhile, in the UK, industries intensively using these rights generate 43 per cent of GDP and contribute to one in three jobs.
