£6m funding call for research into driverless submarines

Development of underwater autonomous systems aims to support offshore energy and strengthen UK military defences

UK Research and Innovation is inviting research proposals that will support the development of driverless submarines to be used by the military and offshore energy sectors.

The project, worth £6 million, comes as part of the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund’s Robots for a Safer World challenge, and is designed together with the Ministry of Defence and Royal Navy, as well as UK oil and gas authorities.
