UK company awarded ESA contract to mine the moon

     

If successful, this could allow astronauts to manufacture their own air in space

The European Space Agency has awarded the UK company Metalysis a contract to extract oxygen from moon rock.

If successful, the process could allow astronauts to make their own breathable air in space as well as rocket fuel, the UK Space Agency (UKSA) said on 9 November.
