UK space sector resists Covid downturns

Sector shows ‘resilience’ with stable investment and continued growth in jobs, says government agency

Recruitment to the UK space sector grew by 6.7 per cent in 2020, suggesting the industry remained stable despite challenges brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.

A statement from the UK Space Agency on 13 April said income from space-related organisations also grew, totalling £16.5 billion in 2020, up from £16.4bn in 2019. Exports counted for around a third of that figure (32 per cent), higher than the proportion of income from exports for the UK as a whole (28 per cent).
