Government says agreement from pension funds to increase small-business investment could unlock £50 billion

A government-brokered agreement to unlock pension funds for investment in small businesses has been hailed as “the beginning of a new era” for the UK’s life-sciences industry.

On 10 July, chancellor Jeremy Hunt laid out reforms to UK capital markets, including a voluntary agreement between eight big players in the pension industry to significantly increase the amount they invest in companies that are not listed on the stock market.
