Crick signs San Francisco declaration

The Francis Crick Institute has signed an agreement pledging to eliminate journal-based metrics in funding, appointment and job promotion considerations.

The institute announced it had signed the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment on 28 January. The declaration was initiated by the American Society for Cell Biology in 2012 with the aim of halting the practice of correlating journal impact factor with a scientist’s standing.

Two Crick founders—the Wellcome Trust and University College London—have also signed the declaration.
