Academics unsure over open data licensing, report finds

A survey of 2,000 academics has found that the majority make their data openly available, but more than half are unsure about the licensing conditions covering the process.

The State of Open Data published by Figshare, an online digital repository, and supported by Digital Science, highlights an awareness of the importance of open data. It found that 80 per cent of researchers value data citation as much as, or more than, article citation.

It also found that 76 per cent of respondents have made their research data available at some point, and of respondents who had never done so, 90 per cent would consider making data open in the future.
