Thomson Reuters has agreed to sell its intellectual property and science business to private equity firms Onex Corp and Baring Private Equity Asia for $3.5 billion.
The sale includes brands such as Web of Science and Thomson Innovation, as well as all associated science and IP services provided to universities, government and companies.
The decision to sell the science and IP business had been discussed since November 2015 and “marks an important step in sharpening our focus on the intersection of global commerce and regulation,” said Jim Smith, chief executive of Thomson Reuters.
