UK Research and Innovation and the Wellcome Trust have both signalled their support for changes to the plans for the open-access publishing initiative Plan S.
Both UKRI and the Wellcome Trust are part of Coalition S, the group of funders backing Plan S. Alongside the two funders, the higher education IT agency Jisc has also welcomed the updates, revealed on 31 May.
The changes to Plan S include a one-year delay to its implementation, funders being able to allow researchers to publish under a stricter Creative Commons licence than the default provided in the original guidance, and modifications to the methods of research assessment.
