Consultation suggests funder could take softer approach than publishing rules set by Plan S coalition

Researchers financed by UK Research and Innovation could still be allowed to publish their work in hybrid journals when they are not permitted to do so under Plan S, according to a consultation paper which suggests the UK funder has rowed back on its loyalty to the open access initiative.

Under the Plan S principles, academic publications funded by public money must be made fully open access with immediate effect from 2021.
