Consultation suggests funder could take softer approach than publishing rules set by Plan S coalition

UK Research and Innovation could fund researchers’ publications in hybrid journals, even when this is not permitted under Plan S, according to a consultation paper which suggests the UK funder has rowed back on its loyalty to the open access initiative.

Under the Plan S principles, academic publications funded by public money must be made fully open access with immediate effect from 2021.
