MPs pressure Willetts on research-budget cuts

Several MPs have demanded that science minister David Willetts explain why the science budget has been cut and how he intends to boost capital funding for research.

Speaking in a debate in parliament on 27 October, Phil Wilson, Labour MP for Sedgefield, asked Willetts to explain why the government “have continued to cut the science budget by 12 per cent overall when Germany, one of our main competitors, has increased its budget by 8 per cent”.
