Abandoned carbon capture scheme cost government £60m

The Department of Energy and Climate Change spent £60.3 million on the now abandoned Longannet Carbon Capture and Storage project, energy minister Charles Hendry has revealed.

Four-year negotiations between Scottish Power, Shell and the DECC to develop a £1 billion demonstration CCS project at Longannet, Fife, collapsed in October over the project’s commercial viability.
