Public health body must be independent, say MPs

The public health body for England being introduced alongside NHS legislation must be seen to be “fearlessly independent”, MPs have said.

In a report published by the House of Commons Health Select Committee on 2 November, MPs also warned that government must set out clearly how the body’s progress would be monitored, and when tougher action would be taken if plans to affect public behaviour through “nudging” did not work.
