Charles Hendry, minister of state at the Department of Energy and Climate Change, assured MPs that the £1 billion set aside for carbon sequestration projects has been protected in the Autumn Financial Statement.
In a written answer to Eilidh Whiteford (SNP, Banff & Buchan) he also announced that a streamlined selection process for carbon capture and storage projects would be introduced early next year.
