MPs launch inquiry into potential of marine renewables

The Energy and Climate Change Committee has launched an inquiry into how early-stage marine-renewable technologies could be developed to meet the UK’s emission and renewables targets, it announced on 6 July.

The MPs point out that the UK has the largest wave and tidal resources in Europe and that the Carbon Trust has estimated that marine renewable technologies have the potential to account for some 15 to 20 per cent of the UK’s electricity.
