UK government defends approach to sports research

The UK government has defended the connections between biomedical research and sport research that a House of Lords committee had said should be improved.

The House of Lords Science and Technology Committee’s report on health and the Olympic legacy, published on 18 July, recommended steps to enable UK Sport and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport to ensure sport research meets international, peer-reviewed standards. The government’s response, published on 17 October, said that it already does. It noted several processes that show this, including how UK Sport and the English Institute of Sport increase the impact of their research.
