Nominated EPSRC chairman backs the power of evidence

Paul Golby, the nominated chairman of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and former chief of energy company E.ON, has said that evidence is the best remedy for dealing with opposition to the council’s controversial funding exercise.

Speaking at a pre-appointment hearing with the House of Commons Science and Technology Select Committee, Golby was asked how he would tackle voices critical of the EPSRC’s funding strategy, ‘Shaping Capability’.
