MPs warn against marine biology centre closure

A number of MPs have signed an early day motion in the House of Commons raising concerns about the potential closure of a marine biology station on the Isle of Cumbrae, off the west coast of Scotland.

It emerged in December 2012 that the University of London, which runs the University Marine Biological Station, Millport, could be forced to close the facility following a decision by the Higher Education Funding Council for England to stop funding it.
