Ensure working rights for international postgrads, says think tank

The left-leaning think tank the Institute for Public Policy Research has urged the government to increase post-study working rights for all students completing MBAs and PhDs.

A survey of Indian nationals considering study abroad was carried out by Ipsos MORI for the IPPR. Of the 500 people surveyed 92 per cent had completed either undergraduate (47 per cent) or postgraduate (45 per cent) study at the time of the survey. The survey found that 91 per cent of the respondents thought that the UK’s restrictions on the ability to work after completing their study would put off either ‘some’ or ‘most’ students.

Overall, the study found that the numbers of international students applying to study in the UK have dropped by 29 per cent since 2010.
