A summary report about the scale of the threat posed by climate change, yet to be published by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, has been seen by the BBC, which reports critics as saying it is being too alarmist.
The second IPCC working group is meeting in Yokohama, Japan, where scientists and government officials are discussing how the summary report should be worded. The document is due to be published on 31 March.
According to the BBC on 25 March, the leaked draft details the effects of climate change, including flooding around coastal areas and damage to the economy, and describes some of the problems as “irreversible”.
