Academics have launched an initiative to connect UK researchers with politicians and civil servants. To get the service up and running, the researchers are calling on interested members of the public to meet their parliamentary representatives to find out more about how to make the service work.
The Evidence Information Service would match politicians and civil servants to a broad network of researchers in academia and industry. Policymakers in need of research evidence or guidance in a certain policy area would be able to contact the service by phone or online, and researchers to contact would be suggested within 24 hours.
The project is not yet funded but it aims to become a registered charity. Its founders are: Chris Chambers, a senior research fellow in cognitive neuroscience at Cardiff University; Natalia Lawrence, a senior lecturer in translational medicine at the University of Exeter; Andrew Kythreotis, a lecturer and research fellow in environmental and climate policy and governance at Cardiff University; Gerard O’Grady, a senior lecturer in linguistics at Cardiff University; and Sven Bestmann, a reader in motor neuroscience at University College London.
