Most UK researchers back EU membership, says lobby group

Nine out of 10 UK-based researchers surveyed by the Campaign for Science and Engineering and the Engineering Professors’ Council say that membership of the European Union is a major benefit to UK science and engineering.

The survey was carried out as part of a report, published on 16 December, that looked at the effect EU membership has on science and engineering research.

It asked more than 400 researchers about their opinions on EU membership, with 93 per cent saying that it was very beneficial for research and engineering, and 95 per cent saying that the EU funding supports and maintains academic collaborations.
