Security researchers are often reluctant to engage with national security services, for reasons ranging from personal safety concerns to a lack of publication opportunities. But academics are hoping that a research hub will narrow the divide between the two.
The Research and Evidence Hub on Understanding, Countering and Mitigating Security Threats was launched by the national security agencies via the Economic and Social Research Council on 6 February, and is now open for proposals.
Several researchers have told Research Fortnight that the hub may act as a buffer between two different cultures and as a reassuringly communal means of engaging.
