An Office for Statistics Regulation will be created from the regulatory arm of the UK Statistics Authority.

Headed by Ed Humpherson, the UK Statistics Authority’s director-general for regulation, the office will broaden the authority’s approach to regulation. This includes a systemic review of the UK statistical system and further development of the code of practice for statistics professionals, according to a press release issued on 24 November.

Writing in an accompanying blog post, Humpherson said that the office aimed to enhance public confidence in the trustworthiness, quality and value of statistics.
