Leading industry figures from the north of England will keep tabs on the government's northern growth agenda through a group they are calling Business North.
Business North, set up by the employers organisation the CBI, will hold its inaugural meeting today, 1 February. A CBI statement added that the group will provide ideas, challenge and support for the government’s Northern Powerhouse policies—which are looking to boost economic development in the north of England.
Speakers at the first meeting will include Ed Cox, director of the think tank IPPR North, David Brown, chief executive of Transport for the North and Vivian Hunt, managing partner for UK & Ireland at the consultancy firm McKinsey. The meeting will be held in the Leeds offices of the accountancy firm KPMG.
