The Liberal Democrats have pledged to protect, and increase, research funding in the event the party forms a government.
In its manifesto, launched by leader Tim Farron on 17 May, the party says it will protect the science and research budget by increasing it in line with inflation.
The manifesto, launched three weeks before the general election on 8 June, also includes a long-term plan to underwrite funding for British partners in European-Union-funded programmes, such as Horizon 2020, who would otherwise miss out on income after the UK leaves the EU.
