The CBI has created a manufacturing council aimed at influencing Brexit negotiations and the UK government’s research and skills policies.
The employers’ lobby group said that the council was needed to guarantee a good outcome for manufacturing, an industry that makes up about 10 per cent of the UK economy and accounts for more than two-thirds of the UK’s R&D spending.
Tom Crotty, group director of the chemicals company Ineos, will chair the council, which will be formed by chief executives of manufacturing firms of different sizes, the CBI said in a statement on 14 August.
