Scepticism meets Boris Johnson’s claim that UK is ‘on the verge’ of commercial fusion reactors

Boris Johnson’s pronouncements on fusion energy have been greeted with profound scepticism from researchers and policymakers.

Speaking at the Conservative Party conference on 2 October, the prime minister said it was “thanks to British technology there is a place in Oxfordshire that could soon be the hottest place in the solar system”, referring to the Culham Centre for Fusion Energy.
