Smith-Reid Review: ‘It would be foolish to think science will be ok’

     

‘Invisible research money’ that so far came with UK’s EU membership will come under scrutiny

Authors of the long-awaited ‘Smith-Reid Review’ have warned UK leaders against attempting to replace Horizon Europe with inferior, copycat programmes should the country’s researchers lose access to EU-funded programmes after Brexit.

Changes and Choices—published on 5 November ahead of the upcoming general election—sets out a series of recommendations from Adrian Smith, director of the Alan Turing Institute, and Graeme Reid, chair of science and research policy at University College London, in preparing for research and international collaboration in uncertain future economic climates.
