AI institute awarded Tier 5 sponsor licence

The Alan Turing Institute will be able to directly sponsor international researchers and technicians to work in the UK for up to two years under a Tier 5 visa scheme.

The UK’s national institute for data science and artificial intelligence announced on 11 April that it had been endorsed by umbrella funding body UK Research and Innovation to hold a Tier 5 licence through the UKRI Science, Research and Academia scheme.

The institute will join 27 other major scientific institutions, including the Natural History Museum and the London-based biomedical laboratory Francis Crick Institute, which use the licence to recruit talented international academics and technicians from outside of the European Economic Area.
