Researchers could be denied clinical research funding from the National Institute for Health Research if they have not published the results of their previous clinical trials in a timely manner.
Under a new policy published on 22 May, the NIHR will request researchers applying for clinical trial funding to submit the registration history of any previous trials they have conducted, as well as the publication of trial results. The NIHR will then take such information into account when making funding decisions.
“This policy is considered good practice and retrospective compliance is encouraged, although it will not be viewed as mandatory. NIHR will consider previous registration and publication amongst a range of other criteria when making funding decisions,” the NIHR said in its policy.
