The Chinese telecommunications company Huawei plans to ramp up its investment in R&D in the UK and wants to increase collaboration with universities, its president of global government affairs has said.
According to a transcript seen by Research Fortnight, Victor Zhang told a roundtable discussion in London on 30 July that the release of the company’s “encouraging” half-year results was “good news” for the UK.
“We spent £112 million on UK R&D last year and that will be increasing this year, as we collaborate more with universities,” he said. In addition, the number of research engineers will increase by 100 to a total of 400, Zhang said.
