Social scientist Ian Diamond, who led an overhaul of Welsh university funding, has been named as the UK’s national statistician.
The former principal and vice-chancellor of the University of Aberdeen, who also served as chief executive of the Economic and Social Research Council, will succeed John Pullinger, who retired at the end of June, the Cabinet Office said on 6 August.
As national statistician, Diamond will be chief executive of the UK Statistics Authority, permanent secretary of the Office for National Statistics and head of the Government Statistical Service. He will also be an executive member of the board of the UK Statistics Authority.
