UK ‘scales back’ £5bn Galileo replacement plan

Reported change in direction comes amid concern over the system’s high cost

The UK has reportedly scaled back on plans for a £5 billion homegrown replacement for the Galileo satellite navigation system.

According to the Financial Times newspaper, ministers are considering a “groundbreaking alternative” to the system which would cost “billions less and could draw US support”.
