Covid-19 ‘amplifies’ gap in mental health research, peers hear

Professor says there is an opportunity to ‘integrate research on mind, brain and body’

Covid-19 has “amplified the gap” in funding for mental health research, scientists have told peers.

Speaking during a House of Lords Science and Technology Select Committee hearing on the science of Covid-19 on 22 September, Matthew Hotopf, vice-dean of research at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience at King’s College London, said there was a “long history of underfunding of mental health research and many funders have recognised this and written strategies”.
