Diversity must be “at heart” of policy, not an “optional add-on”, says shadow science minister

Shadow science minister Chi Onwurah has opened up about her personal experience of racism and sexism as an engineering student, as she called for diversity to be put “at the heart” of government policy.

Addressing the Engineering Professors’ Council’s annual congress on 15 June, Onwurah said she did “not have such a great experience” with engineering professors during her degree in electrical and electronic engineering, which she completed in 1987.
