Cummings calls on MPs to examine speed of R&D funding

PM’s former chief aide blames “horrific Whitehall science funding bureaucracy” for slow grant processes

Dominic Cummings, the former chief aide to prime minister Boris Johnson, has called on MPs to investigate how science funding has improved as a result of lessons learned during the Covid-19 pandemic.

In a series of tweets on 16 June, Cummings referred to a “great covid proposal” that he said could not be funded in the spring of 2020 because of “horrific Whitehall science funding bureaucracy”.
