UK-based European Research Council grantees speak out on why they are thinking of moving abroad

Winning a European Research Council Starting Grant is, in the words of one winner, “the single biggest career boost that an early career researcher could ask for”.

But the enthusiasm that comes with winning this prestigious grant—which offers up to €2.5 million for up to five years—has been muted for the 46 winners based at UK institutions this year.
