Minister’s statement comes as universities and businesses urge government to protect R&D budget

Business minister George Freeman has stood by the government’s commitment to increase R&D funding as universities and firms urged the chancellor to protect the budget at the upcoming autumn statement.

Chancellor Jeremy Hunt is expected to announce tax rises and billions in spending cuts at the fiscal event on 17 November, sparking fears for UK R&D.
