Researchers report being removed from projects as fears grow that inflation will erode participation budget
Researchers are facing fresh problems over the UK’s delayed membership of the European Union’s flagship Horizon Europe R&D programme, as deadlines to sign the first wave of grants loom.
A deal was reached back at the end of 2020 for the UK to pay for access to the scheme, but Brussels has held off finalising it amid wider wrangling. The government has guaranteed it will fund successful UK bids to Horizon Europe in the meantime through UK Research and Innovation, but as the delay drags on some researchers are now reporting being asked to leave projects by coordinators.
