
UK science minister addresses concerns over delays to Horizon Europe backup plan
Science minister George Freeman has explained why the government has taken so long to prepare its long-promised backup plan to UK membership of Horizon Europe, as hopes fade that the country’s access to the EU programme will be signed off.
The UK’s association to the EU’s €95.5 billion (£82bn) R&D programme has been held up by political disputes over the Northern Ireland protocol, leaving UK grantees unable to receive funding from the bloc.
