Lords science committee chair bemoans lack of scientist MPs

Peer Julia King says encouraging more scientists and engineers to enter politics is “hugely important”

The chair of the House of Lords Science and Technology Committee has called for more researchers to consider entering politics as she bemoaned the lack of MPs from scientific backgrounds.

Julia King, who held a number of senior positions in UK universities and industry before moving into politics, said “encouraging scientists to think that politics might be a career they might go into [at] a later stage in their lives is hugely important”.
