This week, the UK government launched dispute resolution proceedings—or “formal consultations”—with the EU over the UK’s continued lack of access to EU scientific programmes.

The UK side claims that the EU has been unfairly preventing the nation’s full access to R&D programmes for the past year and a half by refusing to formally sign off on the agreed UK participation in programmes covering research and innovation funding, Earth observation and nuclear research—namely Horizon Europe, Copernicus and Euratom.
