Medical research charities have called on the next UK prime minister to prioritise science and to end the impasse over Horizon Europe association, as the nation awaits the outcome of the Conservative leadership contest.
Ex-chancellor Rishi Sunak and current foreign secretary Liz Truss are campaigning to replace Boris Johnson as the next prime minister, with the winner to be announced on 5 September, following a ballot of Conservative Party members.
