Experts welcome UK prime minister’s announcement, but question potential of the new institute

The UK prime minister has announced the world’s first AI Safety Institute, but a professor of artificial intelligence at a prominent university has said its remit is likely to be “narrow”.

Rishi Sunak announced the formation of the institute and £100 million of funding to “accelerate the use” of artificial intelligence, in a speech at the Royal Society today.
