Plant is a key part of UK’s updated fusion strategy after leaving EU programme
The UK has appointed the first chief executive of the prototype fusion energy plant due to be built in Nottinghamshire.
Plans for the Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production (Step) programme were first proposed in 2019 with the hope it will generate electricity for the National Grid in the 2040s. At the beginning of this year, the government established a new body to deliver Step called UK Industrial Fusion Solutions, which will sit under the existing UK Atomic Energy Authority.
